mothernaturenetwork: Wearing a chain mail suit, Italian diver Cristina Zenato holds a 10-foot shark in her hands on Oct. 18 in the tropical waters of the Caribbean. She is able to handle the sharks by rubbing hundreds of jelly-filled pores around the animal’s nose and mouth, an action that brings on a natural paralysis that can last for up to 15 minutes. In that amount of time, Zenato, who has been doing this work for 15 years, is able to tend to injured sharks, remove parasites and teach other divers.
